South Beach community center on hold

The Staten Island Community Center, Dongan Hills, is staging and sponsoring the Community Festival in South Beach.

The seventh annual Staten Island Community Festival at South Beach will be held August 23, organizers have announced.

The festival, sponsored in part by the Staten Island Community Center, Dongan Hills, is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational event in the fast-growing SI community, said SICC organizer Vladimir Zvyagin.

"It's really like an open house," he said. "There will be businesses, performers, politicians, information about fashion, education, pretty much everything representing the multi-ethnic community that we really are."

Zvyagin also said information will be disseminated about the importance of the 2010 Census.

The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rain date is August 30.
