Sandy

The Staten Island Community Center is run by SICC Inc., a non-profit community organization whose function is cultural, educational, and social improvements for Staten Island and the greater New York community. SICC has for many years operated an after school program, a dance studio, music lessons, art studio and summer camp. SICC organizes various events for its members and the community.
Unfortunately, as a result of the flood caused by hurricane Sandy, the 1,800 square foot premises were severely damaged.

Unfortunately, our flood insurance covers only damage to the building but not damage to its contents, including the items of damaged property listed below.

We have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy, but -- as has happened so many times in USA history -- we have no choice but to persevere and rebuild as a community. I am writing this letter to you in the hope that you can lend us a hand in the rebuilding effort, so that we can begin to offer our community programs again as soon as possible.

In addition to the extensive damage to the premises themselves, property in the Staten Island Community Center was severely impacted. The following is only a partial list of the property that was either completely destroyed or left so damaged that it must be replaced:

DANCE STUDIO
** Hardwood floors
** Custom wooden closets
** Wall mirrors
** Ballet bars
** Costumes for performances
** Ballet shoes, modern dance shoes, and leotards
** Decorations for performances

MUSIC STUDIO
** Three regular pianos
** One electric piano
** Two guitars
** Two sheet music holders/stands
** Scores of music books

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
** Dozens of desks and chairs
** Dozens of lockers
** Two LCD TV sets
** Two audio systems and microphones
** Two computers (one laptop and one desktop)
** One microwave oven
** One refrigerator
** Book shelves

GENERAL OFFICE
** One laptop
** Three file cabinets
** Computer table
** Bookcase
** Three-in-one Copy-Printer-Scanner

ART STUDIO
** Artist easels
** Art supplies
** Paint (oil, acrylic, tempera)
** Watercolor painting sets

We estimate that the cost of repairing or replacing all of the above items will exceed $60,000. Any help that YOU can offer to meet these unexpected and uninsured losses would be immensely appreciated by us and the community that we serve every day.

We hope that with your help SICC will soon, once again, hear the sounds of children's laughter and music.

If you have any questions about this request or require any additional details, please do not hesitate to contact me.

sincerely,
Arkadiy Fridman,
SICC President
